The situation
Every year since 1905 Melbourne has played host to the first Grand Slam tennis event of the year, the Australian Open, held over the last fortnight in January.
The Australian Open attracts the world’s best and its attendance rivals even that of the US Open. So, when the world’s eyes are you, you need to put your best foot forward.
For the past 20 years, Active Air Rentals has worked with Tennis Australia to provide climate control during the Australian Open.
Each year the Australian Open evolves. Our climate control solutions need to adapt and change with the Open .
This year, Tennis Australia needed us to provide temporary climate control to around 13 sponsor and corporate hospitality marquees including; Kia, Rolex, Adidas, Nike, MasterCard, Woolworths and Blackmores.
In addition to the marquees, there was also a requirement to provide climate control to kitchens servicing hospitality catering and smaller internal structures, such as underneath the arena, where the very important umpires and ball kids prepare before matches.
The Solution
Australian summers, especially in Melbourne, can be unpredictable and temperatures can reach the mid-forties, so keeping key areas and marquees comfortably cool during the tournament can be a tricky one. When designing our solution, we need to ensure the equipment can cope with whatever Melbourne weather throws at it.
In addition to the tricky Australian summer, the bump in for the Australian Open begins in December and is completed on 14 January, 2017. It’s a long time. This presents a key challenge in ensuring the climate control solution is implemented and commissioned on time. Being critical and focused on delivering a quality solution with quality product in an acceptable timeframe is key to a successful install.
We used a combination of chiller and packaged units to keep things cool at this year’s Australian open. And, like every year, Tennis Australia is pleased with our end product and temperatures inside the structures maintained at a comfortable level.
Be sure to tune into the finals which start Thursday 26 January and finish up on Sunday 29 January click here for TV schedule.
