The Situation
The Caulfield Cup. It’s one of Australia’s richest thoroughbred horse races and the richest of its type in the world (2,400 metres). The race is held annually in October on the third and final day of the MRC Spring Carnival. Performances in the Caulfield Cup are one of the possible qualification methods for a run in the Melbourne Cup.
It is also a ’boutique’ venue with approximately 32,000 attendees.
So it’s no wonder that it attracts some of society’s most glamorous and famous faces. Not to mention richest.
Clients who needed to keep cool included Meryl Lynch Bank of America, David Jones and Lander and Rogers.
As in previous years, Active Air Rentals were asked to provide the temporary air conditioning for the extremely large VIP temporary structures, housing approximately 3000 VIPs.
Using our expertise in air conditioning temporary structures the Active Air team specified the perfect solution based on the client’s needs, available power, structure sizes, internal layouts and expected heat loads.
Special attention was also paid to the visibility of the air conditioning ducting and units.
The Solution
Based on the client’s requests, structure sizes, available power, expected heat loads and layouts Active Air installed 600kW of refrigerated cooling in the form of:
- Packaged unit air conditioners
- Portable air conditioners
- Evaporative Coolers
- Double reflection wall grill ducts
- Fabric ducting (polyduct) for even air distribution
The Results
The event was a great success with VIPs staying nicely chilled despite the thrills. Gary Pask, the site manager was also very happy.
