Active Air has been the preferred supplier for the Australian Open since 1998 and continues to provide innovative advanced solutions year on year. Working closely with Tennis Australia for over 26 years has allowed us to develop a thorough knowledge of both the Events expectations as well as the site conditions and requirements.
The bump in for the Australian open generally runs for about 4 weeks with 35 Packaged Air conditioners, 9 Chillers, 34 Air Handling Units and 55 portable units totalling over 3,000kW of cooling power to be installed and commissioned ready for the tournament. Areas that require climate control include marquee merchandise stores for major AO sponsors, business suites and adjoining kitchens, staff and back of house areas, gyms, offices, players warm up areas, VIP seating in Rob Laver Arena, cafes and more.
The tournament itself runs for about 2 weeks, during this time Active Air has a team on the ground starting up equipment each day, continually monitoring and inspecting equipment and if and when required providing additional solutions and flexibility when asked by Tennis Australia.
The planning for this project generally commences about 6 months prior to the event. Every year Active Air commits to regular design and planning meetings where engineers, project managers and event coordinators brain storm back and forth to develop a design to suit all parties. With the Australian Open being such a well known international event it is important to provide a high standard of climate control solutions as well as abiding by the designers aesthetic requirements.
Active Air also took on the Broadcasting for the Australian open in 2024 providing a complete cooling solution for the CAR. With all domestic and international broadcasting of this event coming from this particular CAR room it was vital for Active Air to maintain the temperature at a particular level to ensure that the broadcasting computers and equipment would not over heat and fail..
Over the 25 years working on the project we have experienced the extreme weather conditions that Melbourne is renowned for, with soaring temperatures over 40 degrees we have never failed to meet the climate control requirements or Tennis Australia’s expectations.
