Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia – Keeping The Catwalk Cool

The Situation

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia is Australia’s premier fashion and lifestyle event showcasing the contemporary Spring/Summer collections of Australia’s leading designer brands.

This season includes over 70 designers, 27,000 expected attendees, runway shows, presentations and key industry events to provide the Australian Fashion Industry with outstanding global reach and business opportunities.

This year’s exclusive event is again being staged at the beautifully unique Carriageworks.

With so many people, hot lights and confined space, additional air conditioning was a must. Active Air Rentals got the call.

The Solution

Carriageworks has a permanent  heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system but because of the internal aesthetics and extensive lighting rigs, additional air conditioning was required for the catwalk.

Equipment

A 105kW packaged unit air conditioner and a 100kVA generator were specified based on the event space, time of year and number of people.

Ducting

With thousands of VIP and media eyes on the catwalk, visible air conditioning ducting was not an option.

Ideally air conditioning ducting should be unobstructed. But because of the site layout ducting had to be installed above the lighting rigs.

This caused issues as the cool air had to pass the hot lights first and still be cool enough by the time it reached the catwalk.

The Active Air event services team came up with a solution that is both invisible and effective. See if you can spot the ducting in the image above!
